With Milan Design Week underway, we’re revisiting Christopher Boots’ history within the world’s foremost design fair. Across five exhibitions from 2017 to 2024, the studio has participated in Milan Design Week to unveil new collections, gain international recognition and realise its first solo showcase. Together, these moments trace an evolving international story and an ongoing dialogue with the global design community.

2017 — LOCAL MILAN

Christopher Boots first exhibited in Milan in 2017 as part of LOCAL MILAN, a group presentation curated by LOCAL DESIGN within the storied surrounds of Basilica Sant’Ambrogio. Bringing together leading Australian designers in one of the city’s most significant historic settings, the exhibition introduced the studio’s work to Milan and marked the beginning of an ongoing relationship with the city and its international design audience.

2018 — LOCAL MILAN NO.3

Christopher Boots returned to Milan in 2018 for LOCAL MILAN NO.3, the largest independent showcase of Australian design in Milan to date. During the exhibition, renowned gallerist Rossana Orlandi visited and personally selected a number of works for her gallery, including NEPENTHES. It was a defining moment of international recognition and an important milestone in the studio’s growing Milan story.

2019 — TROVE

In 2019, Christopher Boots presented TROVE, its first collaboration with Lost Profile Studio at Spazio RT in Brera. Built around the idea that archives are memories made real, the exhibition explored objects as vessels of time, memory and future meaning. New works were shown alongside reinterpretations from the collection, marking a defining Milan chapter.

2022 — TROVE 2.0

Christopher Boots returned to Milan in 2022 with TROVE 2.0, once again in collaboration with Lost Profile Studio. Presented in the first Milan edition following the pandemic pause, the exhibition introduced the OURANOS collection to an international audience. Themes of natural history, space and time continued through a new body of work shaped by renewal, optimism and return.

2024 — CRUX

Christopher Boots’ fifth Milan presentation was also its first solo exhibition. Staged in Brera during Milan Design Week 2024, CRUX introduced a new collection inspired by the Southern Cross, with blown glass forms nested within faceted sand-cast brass. Balancing fluidity and structure, the exhibition marked a significant milestone and a confident independent presence in Milan.

Christopher Boots is not exhibiting in Milan this year, but the relationship endures. These five chapters remain part of the studio’s evolving story and its ongoing dialogue with the wider design world. For now, we’re pleased to reflect on the path so far, with future chapters yet to be written.
