STEP INSIDE: POSTMODERN PALACE

Situated on the Central Coast of Australia and flaunting some striking 1980s architecture, this bold villa-style home with interiors designed by Greg Natale showcases a rich palette of jewel tones accented by texturally evocative veneers, marble, terrazzo and tiling. Atop these luxurious interiors rest a variety of Christopher Boots pieces that hearken to the 1980s flair and aquamarine tones with resonating surface finishes.

Cool blue-green tones wash over terrazzo floors and undulating veneer by Ettore Sottsass, while layers of plush upholstered seating in terracotta oranges, deep reds and burgundies invite you to melt into a 1980’s sensibility of the unapologetic embrace of colour and texture. Brass, quartz and glass from the Christopher Boots pieces bringing an added layer of warmth and an earthy quality to the overall feel of this palatial postmodern gem.

“The client specifically requested Christopher Boots lighting. He wanted us to layer his home with contemporary décor for a stylish, sexy interior that balances out the postmodern architecture.” – Greg Natale

A precise tension is held between the amorphous soft furnishings (mirrored in the quartz of the OURANOS III and hand-blown glass of the NEPENTHES), the organic, ‘living’ quality of the surfaces (the swirling veneer of the in-set bookcase, stippled verdigris finish on the Christopher Boots lighting and snaking veins of the marble accents) and the fiercely lineated, clean architectural borders.

“We were working with big spaces and high, arched ceilings, and pendant lighting was a way of bringing big rooms down to human scale. A great example of this is the OURANOS III pendant in the dining room. The Verdigris finish ties in with the green terrazzo beautifully.” – Greg Natale

An OURANOS III adorns the open-plan entertaining area, featuring a verdigris finish on the frame it beautifully accentuates the Calcutta Viola marble. A NEPENTHES TENRIL can be seen in the powder room, marshmallowy glass lamp covers in perfect contrast to the angular verdigris chain links. Over the kitchen island, a BUCKY VITRINE in Dark Bronze illuminates another handsome slab of green marble, the fluted glass mimicking the fluted joinery and verticality of the space.

Greg Natale has achieved an effortlessly cool and visually playful backdrop for every aspect of this interior to sing. The Christopher Boots pieces adding little accents of further intrigue to what is already a masterful space.
